Page Editing - Editing of Meta Data

Page editing - Meta data mask
Page editing - Meta data mask

Operation

The mask for editing meta data is accessible via the directory "Meta data" in the upper bar. When clicking again on the register "Meta data", the metadata mask will close and show the page editor view in the register "Draft".

'Structure editor':

This checkbox ist activated by default.
Clicking on the check box deactivates the structure editor. Thus no more structure editor symbols for individual structural elements and no more "Add element" buttons are displayed (see Structure editor). Options like, for example, or the multilingual container, contents container, etc. are also hidden in this way.

'Title':

The page title is used at several places and defined as a compulsory field. It appears in the title bar of the browser, as name of a bookmark, in the button of the Windows task bar, and as a clickable title in the search results of search engines.
If the page shows up in automatic overview lists, the title ist mostly used as header of the list line. Its wording should be short and informative.

'Description':

The description of the page is used by search engines to display the teaser text in the search results.
If the page shows up in automatic overview lists, the description is mostly used as teaster text in the list line.

'Keywords':

Keywords are used for the Weblication® Full-text search as well as for optimisation for search engines. Several words are separated by commas.

'Searchable':

This setting determines whether the page should appear in the Weblication® Full-text search and in search engines.

'Activate click analysis':

Activates or deactivates the Click analysis for the page.

'Alternative page(s)':

For terminals with small monitor width (e.g. 480 pixels max.), an alternative page can be specified which is displayed.
For this function, it is required to install the corresponding query in the centralised control file (pre.php) and to define mediaquery information in design.css.

'Original URL':

To inform search engines about the original resource of a page,  an original URL can be selected for the page. In this way, a so-called canonical link is placed in the source text auf the page output (see also Wikipedia article "Canonical Link").

'Representation of the page (Layout)':

The choices for the representation of the page are used to activate different layout options and/or representation options for the page. This setting depends on project implementation.

'Preview image':

An individual preview image can be selected for each page. This image is displayed as a thumbnail if the page is shown on a list page with activated preview imgae.
Through the selection arrow to the field "Image section" a section of the linked image can be chosen to select only this section for displaying the image.
By clicking the delete button, an already defined image section can be deactivated/deleted.

'Active navigation item':

If a page is linked to the navigation, the active navigation status is automatically determined by Weblication®. If this automatically set status is to be changed or the page is not linked to the navigation, here a navigation item can be selected which is marked as active when displaying the page.

'Categories':

A page can be allocated to one or more categories.
Categories are mainly used for pages that show up in list pages. Lists can use categories as a filter criterion.

Please note

Dependent on project implementation, further settings may be included in the meta data mask or single areas may be missing.

Toolbar

'WEBLICATION logo flip menu':

By clicking the WEBLICATION logo (with fold-out arrow) leftmost in the upper toolbar you get access - depending on licence and (project) settings - to general file properties such as "cancel", "save and close", "save", "pause", "display versions", and "editing stage".

'Terminate':

Interrupts the current editing work and rejects any modifications having been made (since last buffering).

'Save and close':

Saves all changes during editing definitely in the original file and creates a backup of the previous state (versioning) depending on settings.

'Save':

This buffering function saves edits directly in the original file without creating a Working copy  each time. File editing is always terminated through clicking the button "save and close".
This function is recommended if edits should be constantly compared in the web presence and the file should not be called and saved each time.
Saving is also possible with the shortcut 'STRG + S' (Windows) or 'apple key + S' (MAC), respectively.

'Status tap (Online status / cache / languages)':

This status tap provides you with information about following settings and functions:

  • Online status
The online status symbol informs about the publication status of the file.
By clicking on the symbol (IconIconIcon orr Icon) the Mask for setting the publication status will open.
  • File cache
The cache symbol informs abut the Cache status of the file.
THe cache symbol in white colour Icon indicates that the file is defined with active cache.
The cache symbol in grey colour Icon indicates that the file uses no cache.
By clicking the symbol the Mask for setting the cache status will open.
  • Languages
For multilingual projects you will find flags in the status tab for further language projects.
Through clicking a flag, the language juxtaposition of current and click-on language will open. The left window shows the clicked-on language page and in the right window you can edit the current language page.
