INFO: Version 13.xIncluded from Core Business

Statistics

As of the Weblication® CORE Business package, an integrated, data protection-compliant statistics function is available, which can be accessed by both administrators and editors via the panel and the page info. The statistics function does not contain any personal data and does not transfer any additional data. The required scripts can be installed via the Weblic® "BASE extended statistics" or kept up to date via Weblic® Update.

The "Statistics" illustrates the page views for the project in a graphic. The basis for this are the page views, which are logged via the server monitoring and processed separately for the statistics.

In addition to the server-side statistics, extended client-side statistics are also available, which are already activated by default in current projects. For existing projects, this can be retrofitted or subsequently activated as required and depending on the project implementation.
This statistics function counts calls on the client side and not on the server side. The previously available server-side logging and statistics continue to exist in parallel with the new counting and statistics.

The extension of these client-side statistics provides you with numerous functions that were previously only possible via third-party providers. Due to data protection banners, these statistics from third-party providers such as Google Analytics etc. can no longer be used reliably, because experience has shown that 80% of website visitors often no longer allow data protection-relevant tracking.

This is why the integrated Weblication® statistics function is becoming increasingly important.

Operation

The graphic shows the following evaluations depending on the selection in the top left selection box:

  • Page views per day (server-side)
Shows the page views per day (server-side) in the graphic and indicates the number of views in the period under review. Calls from bots and search engines are filtered as best as possible and thus excluded from the calls. Calls from the Weblication® full-text search are completely filtered.
By selecting the desired time period on the right-hand side, the graphic adjusts accordingly.
  • Page views per day
Shows the page views per day (client-side) in the graphic and indicates the number of views in the period under review. By selecting the desired time period on the right-hand side, the graph adjusts accordingly.
In the vast majority of cases, the number of client-side views will be lower than the number of server-side views, as views by bots that are not recognized as bots on the server side are not recorded in the client-side statistics. The calls from the Weblication® full text search are also completely filtered.
We recommend using the client-side page views as the basis for the statistics, as these are more meaningful than the server-side page views!
  • Visits per day
Shows the visits per day (client-side) in the graphic and indicates the number of visits in the period under review. By selecting the desired time period on the right-hand side, the graphic adjusts accordingly.
The counting of returning visitors is explained in the next point.
  • Visitors per day
Shows the visitors per day (client-side) in the graphic and indicates the number of views in the period under review. By selecting the desired period on the right-hand side, the graphic adjusts accordingly.
If less than 30 minutes elapse between visits, this is a visit (i.e. a returning visitor), otherwise it is counted as another visit.
  • Page views per visit
Shows the page views per visit (client-side) in the graphic and indicates the number of views in the period under review. By selecting the desired time period on the right-hand side, the graphic adjusts accordingly.

The period for the statistical evaluation can be selected in the right-hand area. Two time periods can also be compared.

In the lower area you will find further information, which is described below.

Summary

The following values are displayed in this column as a summary for the client-side evaluation for the selected time period:

  • Number of page views on server side
  • Number of page views
  • Number of visits
  • Number of visitors
  • Average page views per visit

Pages

In this column, the pages are displayed sorted by the number of views for the selected period. The output can be filtered using the selection options above the column (interactions, interaction filter, campaign filter (takes into account campaigns created in Weblication® (with wt parameters), as well as the general utm parameters; wt and utm parameters are treated identically)).
For each page in this list, a magnifying glass symbol for calling up the "visitor flow" for the page in question becomes visible when the mouse is moved over it; clicking on it opens the display in a new window.
Clicking on the file path filters the calls in the upper graphic to this URL.

Notes

The basis for the server-side statistics are the request logs, which are written when the page accesses are logged in the project. All requests except bots and editors are used for the statistics. Depending on the setting, direct calls (e.g. also from binary files) are also taken into account for logging (accessDocument.php).
The basis for the client-side statistics (i.e. the extended statistics available from CMS version 16) are no longer the request logs, but the wa script. However, direct calls (e.g. from binary files) are also taken into account for logging, which are processed on the server side via accessDocument.php.

There are two types of logging:

  1. Direct calls (client-side for pages and server-side for binary files)
  2. Interaction tracking to log clicks or other events.
With interaction tracking, the log file always contains the URL supplemented by #e=name of the event&c=category

The client-side statistics are GDPR-compliant and do not use any additional cookies.
In this internal analysis, the user ID for counting visitors is created using a hash that contains, among other things, part of the session ID. Additional cookies are not required for this.

Please note that the statistics function is an additional function which is intended to give you a general overview of the page views for the project.

For more detailed evaluations, please use statistics software from your provider or other suppliers.
