Edit metadata

In addition to the visible content of a page, a range of metadata is available. Metadata describes the page and configures basic settings for the page. Depending on the project implementation, page object, etc., the fields to be maintained may vary, which is why the fields of standard pages of the BASE project base are explained below.

Page editing - Metadata mask
Page editing - Metadata mask

You can access the screen for editing the metadata via the"Metadata" tab in the top bar. If you click on the "Metadata" tab again, the metadata mask closes again and displays the page editor view in the"Draft" tab.

'Structure editor':

This checkbox is activated by default.
Click on the checkbox to deactivate the structure editor. The structure editor icons for the individual structure elements and the"Add element" buttons are no longer displayed (see Structure editor). Selection options, e.g. for multi-column containers, content containers, etc., are also hidden in this way.

'Title':

The title of the page is used in several places and is defined as a mandatory field. It appears in the title bar of the browser, as the name of a bookmark, in the Windows taskbar button and as a clickable title in search engine results.
If the page appears in automatic overview lists, the title is usually used as the heading of the list line. It should be short and meaningful.

'Description':

The description of the page is used by search engines to display the preview text in the search results.
If the page appears in automatic overview lists, the description is usually used as the teaser text of the list line.

'Keywords':

Keywords are used for the Weblication® full-text search and for optimization for search services. Multiple words are separated by commas.

'Searchable':

This setting determines whether the page should appear in the Weblication® full-text search and in search services.

'Enable click analysis':

Activates or deactivates the click analysis for the page.
This selection box only appears if this is activated in the project configuration (Analysis: Click analysis can be activated per page).

'Alternative page(s)':

An alternative page can be specified for end devices with a smaller screen width (e.g. maximum 480 pixels), which is then displayed.
This function requires the corresponding query in the central control file (pre.php) and the definition of the mediaquery specifications in design.css.

'Original URL':

To inform search services of the original resource of a page, an original URL can be selected for a page. In this way, a so-called canonical link is set in the source text of the page output (see also Wikipedia article "Canonical Link").

'Presentation of the page (layout)':

The selection options for the presentation of the page are used to activate different layout variants and/or presentation options for the page. This setting depends on the project implementation.

'Preview image':

An individual preview image can be selected for each page. This image
appears as a thumbnail image when the page is displayed in a list page with an activated preview image.
The selection arrow for the"Image section" field can be used to select a section of the linked image in order to only include this area for the image output.
The delete button can be used to deactivate/delete an image section that has already been defined.

'Active navigation point':

If a page is linked in the navigation, the active navigation state is automatically determined by Weblication®. If this automatically assigned state is to be changed, or if the page is not linked in the navigation, a navigation point can be selected here which is marked as active when the page is displayed.
If all files in a directory are to be assigned a specific navigation state, it is best to set the pages themselves to"Automatically select navigation point" and define the desired navigation state via the standard file settings of the directory. The files thus inherit the navigation state that is defined via the default file settings.

'Categories':

A page can be assigned to one or more categories.
Categories are mainly used for pages that appear in list pages. Lists can use categories as a filter criterion.

Please note

Metadata records can be defined as mandatory fields. If a field marked as mandatory is not filled in, the page cannot be saved; in addition, the metadata mask is automatically expanded each time the page is reloaded.
